Dog food in Bangladesh

First of all, Molson has been eating the same wonderful dog food since he was born, Premium Edge (Lamb with rice-the purple bag). This is not your typical Kibbles and Bits brand you can buy at any grocery store or even PetSmart. We used to buy it at a specialty pet store in DC. It was recommended to us from the breeder that sold us Molson back in Michigan. She said she had seen too many golden retrievers with poor diets die prematurely from various cancers and other ailments and she was convinced it was directly correlated to their diets. We were not going to take any chances with our first baby! Premium Edge it would be! So, we used precious cargo space in our luggage and brought several bags of Premium Edge with us to Bangladesh a month ago! Well, we have been here just over a month and we are starting to run low. So, now we begin the weaning process. Our cook is preparing a recipe for Molson that we mix with his dry Premium Edge food. He LOVES it! Soon he will be eating this diet and no Premium Edge food at all. Molson’s new diet (one of several recipes we will use) is:
1lb. of browned ground beef
2 cups cooked brown rice
1-2 lb. of homemade yogurt
1 lb. mixed vegetables (all steamed and chopped small)
Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, potatoes, etc.

Our cook also knows what is safe for Molson to eat: lean meat, poultry, organ meats, cooked eggs, yogurt, cheese, rice, potatoes, beans and lots of vegetables and what is NOT safe for Molson to eat: grapes, raisins, onion, garlic, chocolate, salt, or raw meat.

FYI: you CAN buy dog food here in the grocery stores. But the bags are extremely small (i.e. Molson could go through a bag in about a week) and they cost about $30 per bag!

If you know of good homemade dog food recipes, please share them with me/us. That’s it for now.

Hi Robin,

My Golden, Scout, has pancreatitis and loves the following diet when she's recovering: chicken, rice, cottage cheese, toast, and bananas! I actually give her a banana about every other day all the time because she loves them and they're easy on the stomach.

I'm enjoying your blog and love the photo of Molson!

Hi. I work with Ms Jeannie and she sent me your blog. I have friends that make a special stew for their dogs. They have 7 and the dogs are definitely their kids. They are pure bred scott terriers and show dogs. Below is the info they gave me. The dogs devour the stew. They serve it on top of a 1/2 cup of dry food.

Keep in mind that this is for a 2 week supply for 7 dogs, feeding each 1/3 cup for 2 meals a day.

6 Whole Chickens, cleaned and large deposits of fat removed. Boiled for 1 to 1.25 hours. Strip carcase of all meat, dice into "bite sized" pieces and reserve. I freeze the diced chicken in plastic tubs over night.

Remaining items:

5-6 lbs. yellow squash sliced into about 1/2" rounds
5-6 lbs. zucchini sliced into about 1/2" rounds
7 lbs carrots sliced into about 1/2" rounds
2 bunches of celery, sliced into about 1/2" rounds
1 lb bag of brown rice

Add about 1 gal water to very large stock pot (I bought my pot in the food service section of Sams and a very long handled spoon from a restaurant supply house in Stafford) , add all above ingredients (except chicken) and cook for 45-60 min until vegs are soft. Stir about every 5 min. to prevent scorching. Remove stock pot from heat and add frozen chicken to incorporate into the stew. I used the chicken to help cool the stew (this makes it easier to freeze later).

After the stew has cooled I place into good ole zip-lock reusable square tubs and freeze.

This is a long process but Kelli and I feel that this makes a better product than the canned stuff in stores due to the lack of preservatives.

Have them call me with questions,
